I continue to oppose the principle of selling public green space for private development, the extension into Bishop Lucey Park is not even the worst thing about the whole mess. Amy Campbell and the Echo reporting today the tragic statistics for motoring incidents in Cork. In the past 5 years, there have been 11 fatal collisions in Cork city alone — and 179 resulting in serious injury. Across Cork city and county, there have already been 8 people killed so far this year.

Thanks Tadgh McNally and the Examiner for reporting fears among communities caused by the government U-turn on 30km/h zones. The new government flipped on legislation enacted last year. Residential areas are now on tenterhooks they will be sold out in favour of motorist speed and through traffic.

For the last 25 years I have been asking every local councillor I meet, including yourself, to put in a pedestrian crossing at the entrance to The Glen River Park. There is also a bus stop there. Since then the road has been improved for cars (widened) and they are speeding faster than ever.

Vibrant campaign for reduced speeds and better motorist behaviour by residents on Ballyhooly Road and Summer Hill. Speed limits were expected to be lowered to 30km/h. The legislation was even passed. That's now being roll back on — and neighbourhoods like these fear being treated like main roads.
