I frequently skirt right up to the edge of burnout. I work 13-hour shifts with a big social life the rest of the week, and almost never have any actual free time. But right now I'm in a too-hot bath with a tea called Duvet Day, a delicious flapjack, and a "caramel latte" scented candle on the go 😌

Amazing story: one of the organisers of the group putting Union Flags up around Manchester previously did time for being part of a people smuggling gang.

One of my favourite things to read is Ella's Substack. It's about everything and it's about nothing, sometimes it's about food and sometimes her life, and those things cross over and weave and delight. It's beautiful and it's in my inbox and it should be in yours.

Heading for a chain coffee shop to get some caffeine, I noticed a 🇵🇸 flag in a window I was passing. Then a flyer which said "support queer businesses". And it was an unexpected queer bookshop with a coffee bar and a kids section with

's books in it. Much better than Costa 💕

Accidentally got emotionally overstimulated in an underground car park, so I went and got an iced coffee and had a walk in the sunshine and sat by the River Medlock and wrote several pages of brain nonsense for my best friend to pick apart later, and now I think I'm feeling better.

One of my favourite things about working nights is how faintly subversive it feels to do normal things at the 'wrong' time. The meal I eat at 1am is Night Lunch. The bath I have when I'm staying up late before my first shift is a Night Bath. Going for a little wander on my break is a Night Walk.

Other members of the colliery choirs said that they didn't know who the Pet Shop Boys were when they performed, but after they had relatives and friends (and remember these guys were from small-town Wales and England) come out to them, and say seeing them on that stage meant the trusted them.

In 1994 the Pet Shop Boys were invited to perform 'Go West' at the Brit Awards. They agreed and brought with them 3 separate choirs of miners. Some of those miners had marched with the gay and lesbian members of LGSM in the 1980s. It is one of the great, near-lost music moments
