Finished my 4th night shift in a row this morning. Delayed my journey home by half an hour in order to be able to drive past the @bma.org.uk picket and give resident doctors a honk of solidarity. Our medical colleagues need #FullPayRestoration and for their work and responsibility to be recognised.

Today I said "enjoy your new blood!" to a patient as I started their transfusion, and honestly it's a wonder I'm allowed to talk to patients sometimes.

Solidarity with BMA members - your years of pay cuts don't reflect the value of the work that you do. Nursing staff should take note, because this is how we achieve #FairPayForNursing and safe staffing for patients.

Merry merry, Bluesky. I was at work on the 24th and 25th, had my family Christmas on Boxing Day, and am ready to go back to normal tomorrow. I hope you, your families and your patients are happy and (relatively) well.

Sometimes at work I wallow in self-reproach about my communication skills: perhaps if I just found a way to set my argument out more clearly, people would get it by now. This sign has blessed me with the knowledge that sometimes the problem is them.

As well as all the other ways in which the infusion suite at my local hospital has enriched my life, today it has given me this, the finest pass-agg A4 sign in the entire NHS.

Today I'm doing some rep training in my steward role. Every time I hear about what other members are doing to improve their workplaces and make life better for nursing staff I get a little thrill. Being part of a union is so valuable, for us as individuals as well as for nursing as a profession.

Nursing is an incredible and rewarding career. The government must support recruitment to ensure nursing shortages do not continue. Our calls for a loan forgiveness scheme for nursing graduates who commit to working in public services is gaining more support each day. Read more ⬇️

This morning I'm on a practice assessors' study day, looking at methods of assessment and how we nurture our pre-registration nursing students. When I was an StN I didn't realise how much support and planning goes into making sure nursing education works for all learners - so glad to see it now!
