We don’t yet know what motivated the person who shot and killed Charlie Kirk, but this kind of despicable violence has no place in our democracy. Michelle and I will be praying for Charlie’s family tonight, especially his wife Erika and their two young children.

Charlie Kirk was a horrible bigot who spewed dangerous conspiracy theories and misled many young people. He marched for Trump’s authoritarian agenda. None of this justifies violence or murder. Political violence only escalates and makes us less safe. Sadly, we dont have a leader but an arsonist.

Earlier this year, Utah Republicans passed a "Campus Carry" law (HB 128), which allows individuals aged 18+ to carry a firearm, either openly or concealed, on college campuses, provided they hold a valid Utah Concealed Weapon Permit (CWP).

@govpritzker.illinois.gov's take on Kirk is the correct one: "Political violence, unfortunately, has ramped up in this country ... I think there are people who are fomenting it in this country. I think the president's rhetoric often foments it." On point. So glad Democrats are saying this.

The problem with these shootings: we Dems want to take more guns off the street so less people die; MAGA want more guns around and believe it’s a God-given right to carry their AR15 around. MAGA believes people dying is just fine so others can carry a gun, so be it. Kirk said these exact sentiments.

Charlie Kirk in 2023: "It’s worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment." He was wrong. No child, no moviegoer and no conservative commentator should have to die to maintain this perverted notion of the 2nd Amendment.
