For psychological researchers, it pays to go back and read the original work in your domain. Often that work has been miscited for years. But really those people were frequently smart and observant. If you’re a memory researcher, read James, Ebbinghaus, & Bartlett. Read Tulving, Marcia Johnson.

I was at a meeting of long-COVID researchers last week and one bit of data that came out of human cohort studies is that the (in)ability to rest in the first 2 weeks of infection correlates with risk for long-term symptoms. Resting is THE thing.

1/ When I google “mental health”, my image results are full of brains. Funders, researchers, conferences, even clinicians use the metaphor (analogy?) often. Of course mental processes are realized in brains, but I think this depiction does real harm because it moves the focus on the individual only
