No sensible person looks at a GFS forecast 1.5 weeks out, but that's quite the trough in the 12Z GFS, reminiscent of March 28, 2007. The predictability is really low, and even with model consensus on a major trough, I guess there are plenty of ways the week can be unremarkable on the plains.

So there may be a major severe weather outbreak around the western shore of the Persian Gulf this Thursday. Incredible synoptic setup for the region.

This impressive Föhn wall over the mountains has been present much of the day, but I didn't get a chance to appreciate it until 7pm. There was some notable vorticity on the clouds above it that may be KH-related.

By how much and for how long will the upcoming weather pattern--an astonishing anticyclone--be breaking March records in the west? A lot, and a long time. Here's GFS forecast 500hPa height compared to the March record. Breaking monthly records by >50m, and 2 to 5+ days in monthly record territory.

Getting closer to the Wyoming border is often key to finding better wave clouds.

Not my greatest photo from 4/26/24, but I just noticed this shot has the rope out of tornado #2 (the tornado after Waverly) on the left, tornado #3 in the middle, and a tornadic circulation forming on the right that would later mature into the long-track Elkhorn EF4.

#TornadoTuesday. A shot of the Traynor, Iowa EF3 tornado, minutes before the Minden EF3 tornado started to spin up on the same mesocyclone. Today's IL/IN forecasted hodographs on the warm front remind me a bit of those observed on this date.

Based on the entire suite of MPAS and recent HRRRs, I wouldn't be surprised to see a CIG2 used in subsequent SPC outlooks for today (for central IL/W IN). Now to see how idiotic my prediction is.
