Inflow and updrafts in the QLCS is typically pretty smooth while the convective downdrafts and outflow are high spectrum width. Interesting look in cross sections through the storm system when the line is well developed.

I always love it how clearly the leading edge of the QLCS shows up on spectrum width. All the turbulence! Followed by somewhat laminar flow right behind the leading convection.

NWS Applied Meteorology 2026 in Kansas City. It was a long process. But I learned and a lot. All of these people are awesome. It’s truly rewarding knowing that we all have the same goal and want to serve the same mission. Also, all of the facilitators were amazing throughout this.

2.5 weeks complete in Kansas City for NWS Academy/Foundations and now I’m back at home in Colorado. WOW! Learned so much, met some amazing people, got taught new skills, and learned a lot about my new role. Also ate too much BBQ (not complaning).

All 0.5 degree scans from KLOT of the supercell in ILL/IN yesterday evening. Markers show hail reports larger than golf balls and tornado reports as they happened

Definitely an eventful first day yesterday at NWS fundamentals. 3” diameter hail just to our north, a tornado watch, and plenty of lightning!

The leading fine line is a wind shift. A 2nd, diffuse fine line is associated w/ drop in dewpoint and modest drop in T. IMO 3rd fine line behind the precip is main front associated with stronger winds and much cooler air. From my back yard - 1st passes around 11:50 pm, second around 12:20 am.

Love TDWR imagery of undular bores and in this case it is right along the cold front. Also looks like another ripple in the gravity wave just behind the front.
