The semiliterate people who use chatgpt like to point to calculators as a precedent of assistive technology but the thing is: calculators actually calculate. A calculator really does let you outsource calculation. It does exactly what it is supposed to do, and marketed as doing, reproducibly.

Similar to asbestos or unexploded munitions, the fallout of the LLM era will persist long after the apps are abandoned, because their outputs have been snuck into the corpus by copy-pasting fools. The longer chatbots force themselves into every workflow, the longer it will take to decontaminate.

🎮 Celebrating A Nintendo Legend 🕹 Today marks the fifth anniversary since the late, great Nintendo Engineer and Videogame Producer, Masayuki Uemura visited the NVM in 2020. With a career spanning over 30 years, he was most famous for his work leading Nintendo's Research and Development 2 team.
