There’s something almost magical about flipping on the radio and catching the end of a net where folks are checking in from almost across the other side of the country. When you think of all the things that signal had to go through for us to receive it on the coast - just awesome!

Finally listening in on a nice clear net, and I’m begging our more experienced hams to say their call signs a tiny bit slower and clearer, especially those last two letters, which folks tend to rush or swallow. Us newbies are trying our best to quietly get to know who you are! 😅

Damn crackles. Just caught the tail end of a convo between two hams, and I missed one whole call sign, and the last letter of the other call sign, thanks to static. Made whatever the letter was sound like ‘monitor’. 😭 Anyway, hope the new appliances and car waxing go well for you, gents! 😁

First in person class today for our amateur radio license course, and we spent the morning building a ladder line roll-up J pole. Everyone was so enthusiastic, and kind, and I learnt so much bcs I had the most issues w/my project (I had a masterclass in soldering, let me tell you 😆). So much fun!!

If you’re self studying for your ham license, and struggling to fit the pieces together, I can’t recommend taking classes w/other hams enough. There are online courses available if you’re remote, or have mobility challenges, which at least give you the chance to bounce your questions off real ppl.❤️📻
