EU emissions in 2023 were *lower* than during the 2020 pandemic! Newly released data shows that both CO2 and GHG emissions continued going down in 2023, despite the troubling weakening of emission sinks.

The EU has released its latest GHG emission inventory, with data up to 2023. The good news, GHG emissions continue a downward trend, currently 37% below 1990 levels. The bad news, a significant downward revision of land-use removals (LULUCF). 1/
