Having a script explaining your reasons is neat but it’s not necessary. Mostly it’s a numbers game, and just saying “I’m a constituent at [zip code] and I oppose [bill]” is literally all you really need!

personally i go to 5calls because they make it really easy to see your reps' numbers, and yeah if you go to voicemail you can literally just say 'i'm a constituent at X and i'm going to list off a bunch of bills i want [rep] to oppose' and then you list it. you can do that if you get a person too

Here's a thread about how trans people can approach remaining informed of the news in a way that prioritizes pragmatism, self-care, and building resistance. It's based on what I'm doing personally. So, fyi, I'm more anxious than usual, but holding up substantially.

I know that there is a lot of panic, and I feel it too. But I continually remind myself: My panic serves the people who want to harm me. I am here. I am safe. I am doing my best to plan for my own survival and be of service my community. And then I calm down and get back to it.

OK, so you're taking in news relevant to your survival, you're making practical plans rather than panicking, you're doing your best to stay grounded. Next: What does your community need? How can you support and be supported? National news is useless here. Set it aside. Be there for other people.

I incorporate a decent amount of mindfulness and grounding in my day to day. I feel my feet on the ground or my butt in my seat. I slow down and focus just on making dinner or just doing dishes. I remind myself that I am here, I am not off floating in panic and headlines. It helps quite a bit.

If you are safe, remind yourself that you are safe. If you're scared of things that might happen, remind yourself they haven't happened. Make plans, to the best of your ability, but don't forget that you're here, you're okay, you are surviving and you intend to continue.

I would also like to point out that the gay rights movement has always been heavily supported by trans people, despite the fact that we’ve been treated as pariahs by its leaders, and its success has been due in no small part to trans activists.
