"Never spread the lie in the headline" should be a hard rule of 21st century journalism. Research shows that repeating lies helps to spread them, and people read headlines more than they read stories.

Exactly right. They simply want the end product — whether it’s an actual production of art or music or the end result of hard work like a PhD — without doing the work. It’s cheat codes all the way down.

Some of these pardons went to rich people that exploited and destroyed poor marginalized communities. Fuck Biden, and fuck the false notion that the Democratic Party supports the working class.

Always interesting how so many people complain that the Post Office & public transit don't make money, but never demand that fire departments, cops, & the Department of Defense show a profit.

Roughly, 16,666 minor kids get married a year vs 3,681 trans kids on HRT annually in average, with that second number being even smaller now due to the number of statewide healthcare bans that have been enacted over the last 3 years It's a huge huge HUGE difference

I don’t believe in violence. It is because I don’t believe in violence that I do believe we should prevent it, not by making proclamations about how not to be violent, but by not robbing people of the chance to meet their physical and emotional needs. Those who do the latter are doing violence.

anyway a fun fact i recently learned is you can submit copyright claims against libs of tiktok because she’s a known individual and her accounts are monetized and are platforms used to sell merch, which eradicates fair use. she can’t use your videos without licensing or consent.

Six decades later, Star Trek may still be the only franchise based on the ideas that diversity is strength, justice is the measure of civilization, bounty is to be shared, peace is worth the price, and all these things can be achieved. We need more shows that look ahead and find goodness.

This is, of course, not the only reason. It also doesn't help that the authoritarians don't have the rule of law applied to them in 🇺🇸as happens in other, apparently more serious countries like <checks notes> 🇫🇷 & 🇧🇷, & that the (small & large D) democrats keep pretending extinct norms still exist.

A key reason voters don't believe the fascists are fascists is that major media outlets keep normalizing them with cover stories cueing the public they are just like Hollywood celebrities. Today in "neither our media nor our political system is designed to deal with a far right authoritarian party"

Elon Musk is the most committed and powerful foe of Americans' free speech rights in the entire world and yet news organizations frequently lie and describe him as a "free speech absolutist." Why do you think that is the case? Are they sincerely mistaken or is it another thing?

Any male response to feminism, no matter how violent, is a legitimate, pitiable crie du coeur that women must sensitively attend to and heal. Any female response to men’s misogyny is presumed excessive and illegitimate, and must be policed.

I appreciate much of the analysis I’ve seen over the last couple days. I don’t think we can talk about what is sick in politics or media (a lot!) w/o looking directly at billionaires, refusing to shut up about billionaires, and coming for billionaires through policies that chisel away at their power

the important question isn’t “did Harris lose because the left is too woke?” it’s “why isn’t Donald Trump in federal prison?” We’re being subjected to lectures about politics by the people who held all of the power and let this dipshit slip through their grasp.

Often times when one goes through a traumatic experience, one will do anything to protect themselves from it happening again. But to come through it and recognize that what matters most is protecting each other and not only ourselves, that is strength and that is character.
