It’s DAY SIX of the Republican Retreat.

Republicans shut the government down and the House Republican Speaker has canceled votes this week. He doesn’t even want to come to the table to negotiate with us on how to lower the cost of your health care.

KFF finds a majority of Americans that buy their own health insurance won’t be able to afford it if health care tax credits expire. Democrats and most Americans agree: we need a bipartisan solution to reopen the government and lower the cost of health care.

Short answer: yes. This is why my Democratic colleagues and I were in Washington this week and why we're at the table, waiting for Republicans to join us in our effort to save Americans' health care.

House Republicans think protecting the healthcare of everyday Americans is less important than their vacation. We strongly disagree. Cancel the Cuts. Lower the Cost. Save Healthcare.

We can't settle for Republicans’ promise of later negotiations. Because every time this Administration says something, they go back on their word. If Republicans need Democratic votes, they need to keep health care premiums from skyrocketing for the American people.

Republicans just brought the House into session for a total of 2 minutes.   Democrats tried to bring up legislation to keep government open, keep children on their insurance, and keep health care costs from doubling.   Then they adjourned. The GOP will own this shutdown.

Democrats are ready, willing, and able to find a bipartisan agreement that keeps the government open and protects health care for Americans. Cancel the cuts. Lower the cost. SAVE HEALTH CARE.

Unless Congress acts, tax credits will expire, premiums will skyrocket, and millions, including cancer patients and those with chronic illnesses, could lose their care.

With just one day left before the funding deadline, I’m ready to work across the aisle to keep our government open and lower health care costs for the 30,000 people in our communities who would be directly impacted.

Congressional Republicans are “split” on whether or not to raise health care costs by thousands of dollars? Extending support for ACA premiums is a no-brainer, but clearly, Republican leaders are fine with letting health care costs skyrocket.
