We face a health care crisis that puts care out of reach for millions. I’ve heard firsthand the toll this has taken on people in my district and Virginia. I joined @energycommerce.bsky.social Democrats to draw attention to rising premiums and my bill to promote transparency in Medicare Advantage.

Today, House Democrats and a handful of House Republicans took a giant leap forward to bring relief to millions of Americans unable to afford the rising cost of health care without the enhanced premium tax credits under the Affordable Care Act. I voted yes. Here’s why 🧵

Republicans sat by while the Trump Administration canceled or paused major clean energy projects — including the Virginia Coastal Offshore Wind Project, which would have generated energy to power 900 Virginia homes. I joined @energycommerce.bsky.social Democrats to question this energy strategy.

For months, I’ve shared stories of constituents who could lose their health insurance. Now that ACA enhanced premium tax credits have expired, Congress must restore them to give millions the peace of mind that they can get the care they need when they need it.

Through the Big Ugly Law, Trump will give $117 billion in tax cuts to the top 1% this year. With that money, we could keep health care affordable for 22 million people each year for decades — with plenty to spare.

ICE just shot and killed a woman in Minneapolis. The reports from the ground are haunting. We need a full and independent investigation into the actions by ICE that led to this tragedy.

Five years ago, we watched in horror as a mob, urged on by the President of the United States, stormed the Capitol to try to take by force what they could not win at the ballot box. Today on #January6th, we remember the officers and those affected in this grave attack on our democracy and nation.

Two things can be true at once: Nicolás Maduro is an illegitimate leader of Venezuela, and Americans deserve answers about Trump’s move to capture him and risk pulling us into another needless forever war. I joined Rich Herrera on WRVA to discuss this and more.

I’m heartbroken to hear of the sudden passing of Bill Martin and extend my condolences to his family, friends and colleagues at the Valentine Museum. Bill and I both loved sharing our Commonwealth’s history. While his legacy will live on in the stories he brought to light, he will be dearly missed.

A. Lincoln James served Trinity Baptist Church of Richmond for 45 years, but his impact on the broader Richmond community and the Commonwealth is immeasurable. I am saddened by his passing, but know God has welcomed him into Heaven with, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”

Republicans passed their health care bill that does not include an extension of the enhanced premium tax credits under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). I voted no. Here’s why 🧵

In just 15 days, health insurance premiums will skyrocket for more than 20 million Americans. Small business owners, farmers and self-employed workers will be forced to make impossible choices. We still have time. Congress must act now to extend the ACA tax credits.

Yesterday, the @energycommerce.bsky.social Communication & Technology Subcommittee explored ways to improve the nation’s public safety communications system.  As localities modernize their 911 emergency systems, federal funding must ensure no community gets left behind.

We now have the 218 signatures needed to bring a three-year extension of the ACA enhanced premium tax credits to the floor for a vote. Let’s bring relief to the millions worried about their health insurance premiums spiking next year. Speaker Mike Johnson must bring this to the floor immediately.

At 16, Barbara Johns led a student walk to protest the deplorable conditions at R.R. Moton High School. Her actions helped desegregate Virginia schools as part of the Brown v. Board of Education decision. Today, the Virginia delegation unveiled her statue in the U.S. Capitol.

After months of inaction, Republicans introduced a last-minute package that fails to address the health care crisis they created. I anchored a @cbc.house.gov Special Order Hour demanding the permanent extension of the ACA enhanced premium tax credits before they expire at the end of the year.

Congress created the DOE to fill gaps states and local governments could not fill to ensure every child received a quality education. I joined @repjahanahayes.bsky.social to highlight the devastating consequences for children and families if the Trump Administration continues to dismantle it.

The horrific shooting at Brown University has left families inconsolable and a community shaken. Last night, I stood for a moment of silence for the victims, including Midlothian High School graduate Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov. My heart goes out to his family and all those impacted by gun violence.

This #BillOfRightsDay, we celebrate the ratification of the first ten amendments into the U.S. Constitution. Rooted in the Virginia Declaration of Rights and written by Virginians, the Bill of Rights was intended to “fortify the rights of the people against the encroachments of the government.”
