St. Helena is an uninhabited island in Lake Michigan near the Straits of Mackinac. It has a manned lighthouse, and you can apply for a shift as an assistant keeper. I mention this bc current circumstances might make this scenario appealing.

The last time I was here, in the early 1980s, we took the first boat in spring. Had to climb over fallen trees and build our own bridges, and it rained for three days. The day it stopped raining, I met a wolf on the trail. Still one of my favorite places on earth.

The bay pictured below is part of the Alger Underwater Preserve, which means no one can touch the Lake Superior shipwrecks below. The dock pictured below is for Pictured Rocks NL tour boats, but at another you can board a glass-bottomed boat to see the wrecks, perfectly preserved in the cold water.

This cam is a lot more impressive when the lighthouse windows aren't snow-swept
