Papers often conclude "more research is needed" without explanation. This is a missed opportunity. You are the expert. This is your time to shine. Explain what the remaining uncertainties are, and give justified recommendations on what the research needed to resolve them should look like.

It's blimming awesome that AMPPS is a PCI RR -friendly journal. @pci-regreports.bsky.social The peer reviews for this paper were impressively rigorous and constructive; one of the reviewers even suggested code for an improved analysis. I'd love to see more journals become PCI RR friendly.

I love @peercommunityin.bsky.social because it gives the best of both worlds. Peer review is free, public, and relatively quick (especially if you use PCI-RR's scheduled review). It's then up to the authors whether to publish diamond OA or pay APCs to publish in more prestigious journals.

Friends, if you say that one thing "fosters" or "fuels" or "leads to" or "impacts" or "produces" some other thing... you are making a claim about causality.

Fun party trick: open a paper that strongly implies causality in the title, [CTRL + F], search for “causal” and read all hits.

I think it is a mistake to think that if we cannot detect then we cannot forbid. Fraud & plagiarism are forbidden. Often they may go undetected (like people may drive too fast or through a red light), does not mean they are not violations of scientific integrity (or law, in case of the examples).

This is bad news for editors at Wiley journals. Editors at PCI RR friendly journals don't have to burn as much time searching for reviewers, since PCI recommenders shoulder that duty (and do an amazing job). But thanks to Wiley you may now find it even harder to secure reviewers than it was before..

I’d like to take this one step further: poor communication & hype often already start in sci papers. “Because this study was only observational, no causal conclusions can be drawn” followed by a discussion of policy implications and theorizing based on a causal conclusion.

Wrote Scientific Reports February 8 2024 that a newly published meta-analysis on mindfulness & brain morphology excluded all null-findings and therefore ... by definition found a relationship. Still no proper response from the journal (other then many "we'll look into it"). It's been a year now.

It's often claimed that developing a belief in one conspiracy theory will increase the chance that someone goes on to believe other conspiracy theories... perhaps leading them down a rabbit hole of conspiracist beliefs. But does that really happen? doi.org/10.1002/ejsp...
