Trump spilled 1,600+ convicted criminals—many of them violent—back onto the streets; then declared via executive order that his political rivals were "terrorists"; then told his fans that anyone identified as a terrorist could be summarily murdered.... this is *exactly* what he thought would happen.

If you see an ICE agent, know that they’re governed by no laws, have no red lines, don’t follow the Constitution, and can’t be stopped. They’re going to do whatever they feel like. They are American Gestapo—literally. They’re the federal stormtroopers the right wing spent 100 years worrying about.

I couldn’t possibly have more respect for the practicing attorneys who are in courtrooms fighting all this. They deserve our admiration and our support. My role as a journalist who had a past law career is different. My job is to see that, structurally, our courts are *unlikely* to withstand this.

The courts can’t stop any of it because our rule of law depends on judges believing that federal lawyers would never lie to them. That used to be—broadly—true. It’s not true now. The new federal prosecutors will lie to courts to cover up crimes. And this POTUS pardons those who serve him via crime.

When the purge comes—post-martial law—it’s ICE that’ll be kicking down doors. No warrants, badges or probable cause. Just roundups conducted by men who are—in many cases—members of the far-right militias that flooded DC on January 6 to be Trump’s new army. They know they’ll be pardoned for anything.

So everyone must understand that there’s no bottom here. ICE will kidnap anyone, lie about any incident, ram the cars of citizens—or shoot them—with impunity, mislead courts... if the SS would do it, the rogue paramilitary operation Lewandowski and Miller are running with Trump’s blessing would too.

Kristi Noem isn’t running ICE, per federal insiders. She’s a figurehead—a cosplaying grifter. ICE is being run by Corey Lewandowski (the second-most evil campaign manager Trump ever had, after Paul Manafort, but it’s close) and Stephen Miller, perhaps the most evil man ever to enter the White House.

ICE is stockpiling weapons. It’s disappeared 170+ citizens. It’s gassed cops, arrested vets and shot priests in the head. It’s the personal army of a rogue POTUS—a fascist ex-con and rapist—and it’s masked, armed, nameless, faceless and insignia-less. It’s intended use is exactly what we fear it is.
