Crazy Sacramento bait-and-switch! Lawmaker proposed limits on public records requests. Then agreed to rewrite bill so agencies just get a couple extra days to respond. I am back at Delaney Hall, where ICE agents are again targeting journalists with extremely strong pepper spray. Videographer Scootercaster was off to the side of protesters and got a direct hit. A small amount got in her eyes after taking off her PPE and left her unable to work for the last 30 min.

If the general election for Los Angeles Mayor ends up with Karen Bass vs. Spence Pratt, the winner would surely be sworn in with a negative approval rating. Bass was -23% in March. Pratt could start lower. How long until Kalshi and Polymarket are taking bets on a recall?

The election seems to be a happy ending to this story, in case you lost track of some of the stories about Hydee Feldstein Soto under all the nonsense that has been happening lately.

Scott Pelley is no fool. He could have left earlier. He could have stuck around. He picked the most opportune moment to strike the biggest blow on behalf of truth and journalism. Whatever happens next, hijackers of CBS and 60 Minutes can’t wrap themselves in the brand’s hollowed out credibility.

"Mr. Pelley also wrote that senior managers at CBS News had pressured him to insert bias into stories for “60 Minutes” this past season, though he did not provide details about specific segments." Pretty important part of the story re his firing. Maybe *the* most important part. CBS = new Fox.

It's been 16 hours since two journalists were arrested with protesters at Delaney Hall. Even lawyers can't reach them. New Jersey State Patrol made arrests. According to Essex County Jail, everyone is physically there. But they're just "transport." Legal "custody" is with Newark Police Department.

Instagram is tee vee. Bluesky is newspapers. Newspapers are blogs for billionaires.

Update: New Jersey ultimately exempted press with "verified credentials" from curfew. "Verified credentials" wasn't defined. A big group of press was kettled. Most released without issue but two were arrested. Both @nppa.org members. Other press appear to have been denied sight/sound access.

This Delaney Hall curfew likely violates both the U.S. and New Jersey Constitutions, and certainly violates them both by failing to exempt press. Press require sight and sound access to do their job. Think of them like a first responder, running to danger to keep public informed.

Extraordinary piece about being a journalist covering ICE/Border Patrol. I wanted to screenshot a couple quotes, but too many. Read it all. Agents wanting to bask in glory of journalist lenses while avoiding scrutiny reminds me of Arkan's Tigers, a Serbian death squad Ron Haviv photographed in 90s.

This was fiasco top to bottom, especially abusive efforts to charge a Stanford Daily reporter for covering it. Not well reported? Private colleges appear to be only non-public entities in CA that control paychecks of their own police depts, with power to arrest and recommend charges. Ugly dynamic!

Los Angeles has reputation as most degenerate place in America for press rights. FIFA required LA World Cup host committee to write a human rights action plan. It was supposed to include press. No surprise, LA completely blew that part off. LA's seen DECADES of police violence toward press.
