San Francisco began issuing same sex marriage licenses today in 2004 after a directive from Mayor Gavin Newsom.

It's pretty good here in California. Our housing costs suck but Newsom has been very effective at forcing the legislature to address it at least somewhat. And we have gender neutral bathrooms by law. Being trans in California isn't a death sentence despite what Newsom's critics say.
