I think this is the right response. Trump will change his mind again (probably after talking to Putin or Orban); & in any case he offered no new US help, in terms of sanctions or military aid. As for "I wish both Countries well" - does that sound like someone working hard for the victory of an ally?

The “Ed Davey is obsessed with Farage” takes are weird. A) The media is obsessed with Farage B) If the next election looks anything like the polling, it will basically be a progressive/populist bloc election. Labour won’t be Davey’s enemy. They’ll be his path to govern.

Reform is a (bad) mood and not a political party in the traditional sense. Its followers don't care about facts. They care about their beliefs. No amount of fact checking will work and their critics need to adjust to that. You cannot defeat delusion with reason.

There should be a high bar for politicians attacking the media, but maybe Ed Davey has half a point here? For example, the first three paragraphs of this BBC story repeat Reform's £243bn figure without saying that the thinktank behind the estimate now disowns it. (This is mentioned in paragraph 35)

I generally rate Chris Mason but it would make things easier for all if Robbie Gibb - Brexiter & Theresa May’s director of comms at Number 10 - were not still a non-executive director of the BBC. Everything he touches turns to shit. Including, at the moment, a lot of the Beeb’s political journalism.

If you think the military should stop small boats then you've not a clue about military capacity or capabilities. What do you expect them to do? Gun them down? Sometimes I just think this country needs to be given a shake and told to grow up.

People who bang on about ‘the military’ being used to stop small boats haven’t actually been in the military. Donald Trump was a draft dodger and called the military ‘losers’ so he’s in no position to talk.
