It was lovely to visit the St Andrews Church Charity Shop on Poplars Avenue this morning, and to chat to Rev Philippa Shaw and members of the community about Pride in Place and the £20m of investment coming to Hulme to be spent on local residents' priorities.

I'm pleased the indications are that Labour's NEC will not make the same mistake twice in blocking Andy Burnham from making the case to members in Makerfield to be their choice to join us in Westminster, to have our best talent fighting for communities like ours in Government.

The idea anyone, no matter how wealthy, just gives away five million quid as a gift with no strings attached to a politician is absolutely for the birds, and the breezy way Farage speaks about it like it's a normal thing and a private matter is ludicrous.

I don't know how many different ways I can say this but I'm not stepping aside for Andy Burnham, and it's both very tedious for me and very demoralising for my staff to keep seeing it reported that I might be about to go when there's never even been so much as a conversation with Andy about doing so

The cost of living crisis and our low growth are two symptoms of the same problem: an economic structure that hasn’t been working for a long time. We need to take on the root causes of those costs.

It's worth noting that he has resigned his membership, not been kicked out as despite all of Reform's claims about vetting this was a candidate they were happy to support and campaign for and who remains a councillor because of that fact. Truly vile.

I was booked on Cross Question weeks ago and would rather have been talking about anything else, but we are where we are. Compensation for crime victims capped in 1996 not enough, say campaigners
Figures suggest if £500,000 limit set for Great Britain 30 years ago was adjusted for inflation the maximum would be more than £1m A 30-year freeze on compensation for victims of crime should be lifted, campaigners have said, adding that the maximum of £500,000 is insufficient to plan for a lifetime. The current highest rate, set in April 1996 by the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA), is paid to victims of crime in England, Scotland and Wales who have suffered severe life-changing injuries, including brain damage and paralysis. An arson attack on a Jewish ambulance service isn’t about Israel. It isn’t about Zionism, or American imperialism, or capitalism, or war in the Middle East. It’s about Jews. It’s about making British Jews feel fearful in their own homes. Just like Bondi Beach, and Heaton Park, all over again.

We should be very clear: if you think that “British Muslims praying... to mark the end of the day’s fast” is a greater show of “domination” than anyone praying outside an abortion clinic, then you are hostile to Muslims, and you do not in any meaningful way support freedom of religion or expression.
