Labour governments lift children out of poverty. 450,000 children will benefit from our choice to scrap the two child benefit cap, with those with the broadest shoulders paying a fairer share to cover the cost. 1/2

I am thrilled that the Manchester Digital Campus has been confirmed by the Government today. This is fantastic news for our city and will create over 9,000 jobs and a new city centre park that will bring the derelict former Ancoats retail park brought back to life.

Meeting and thanking Labour Party members is one of the best bits of my job. Great to join @adamjogee.bsky.social and colleagues this weekend to raise much needed campaign funds, and talk about the difference Labour is making putting our values of fairness and social justice into action.

Very concerning incident at Manchester Central Mosque. Thanks to the vigilance of volunteers and the action of police a more serious incident was avoided. Those responsible must face full force of the law. We must root out Islamophobia and Muslim hate and all those who perpetrate it.

Huge numbers of Labour activists out today in Denton, Burnage and, with me in Levenshulme, @edmilibandmp.bsky.social @andyburnham.bsky.social, Angeliki Stogia, speaking to progressive voters who recognise that only we can stop Reform across the whole constituency.

The stakes are really high in the Gorton and Denton by-election. Manchester gave birth to the trade union movement, home to the suffragettes, grew the coop movement. A city built on equality and community spirit. Only Labour can stop Reform’s Tommy Robinson backed candidate.

Great to speak at @unison.org.uk Women’s Conference today alongside @andreaegangs.bsky.social. I spoke about the change we have achieved together, the strength of the union link and the threat women face from Reform.

I will be sitting alongside Keir Starmer at the PLP this evening as Deputy Leader with my full support. He & I have been discussing in recent days, & before, how we need to do better to take the fight to Reform (as we are doing in Gorton & Denton) & by showing we are on the side of ordinary people.

Reform’s Matthew Goodwin’s big idea would punish millions of women and strip them of their basic dignity to choose.   Even more dumfounding is that Nigel Farage appears to agree with it.   This is the kind of divisive politics we must stand against.

I am proud to have voted tonight to lift children out of poverty in Manchester Central and across the country by scrapping the Tories’ two-child benefit cap, which pushed tens of thousands into poverty every year. Labour values in action.
