I was honoured to have a room named after me at the Local Government Association headquarters recently. As a former Chair and current Vice-President of the LGA, it means a lot to me to have this lasting connection.

𝐑𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬’ 𝐑𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐁𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐁𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐋𝐚𝐰 23% of homes in Telford are rented privately so this really matters. This is long overdue and will make a massive difference to so many people in our community.

I hear you – whether in your letters, emails, or when we meet face-to-face. Our local NHS has a long way to go, and while we’ve made some progress, there’s still so much to fix and get right. I also see it too – as this is same NHS that me and my family use.

I met with Hospice UK in Parliament this morning to mark Hospice Care Week. As I said last week, our hospices do vital and irreplaceable work, and we need to support hospices like Severn Hospice and Hope House Children’s Hospice - both with resources and reform to make them sustainable.

As a part of Flood Awareness Week, I visited Flood Mary in Parliament to hear about the work she is doing to help people prepare for flooding.

Today is World Homelessness Day, and this is a dangerous time of year for those without a home or sleeping rough. The Govt has announced £84m funding to help local authorities like Telford & Wrekin Council tackle homelessness.

Free school meals are being expanded to every family on Universal Credit. This will benefit up to 7,330 families in Telford, putting nearly £500 in parents' pockets. This comes as we also roll out free breakfast clubs, cut the cost of school uniforms & fund 30hrs free childcare for working parents.

I've heard absolute horror stories about our broken prison system from those working in the industry. No justice, no safety for victims or the public & an easy ride for criminals. The Govt's sentencing reforms will make our prisons tough & fair, enforcing the rules & rewarding those who follow them.

Great news for Telford: a new defence facility is bringing new jobs. Proud to see our town leading the way, with top defence firm RBSL investing here. This shows the gov's commitment to our armed forces. Thanks to our local workforce, RBSL & the council for working with me to make it happen.

Here is an update on the assisted dying bill which went to report stage in parliament today. In the end today saw MPs vote on two amendments to this Bill. These are the details of the change that I voted against which I mention in my video update below.

My question to the Home Secretary on the Govt's immigration reforms. After years of broken borders, my constituents and I welcome a Govt getting a grip on our migration and asylum systems.

The Govt has secured a massive trade deal with the US, delivering jobs, growth & lower prices for Telford, West Mids & UK. Car tariffs slashed; steel & aluminium tariffs scrapped. Manufacturers, businesses and consumers will all feel the benefit. Great to see PM in West Mids to announce the deal.

New powers are now in force, meaning water executives who cover up illegal sewage spills could face up to two years in prison – the toughest measures in history. These new powers will also ban the payment of unfair bonuses for polluting water bosses. Labour Govt promised to clean up our rivers 🔏

Getting the most for every patient out of every £

Asked the Leader of the House for a debate on recognition for magistrates - volunteers with decades of experience who give up their time to keep our justice system functioning, yet there's no long service medal to celebrate them. I welcome Leader's support, & will continue to campaign on this issue.
