Congratulations to Meg Hillier MP on her election as Chair of the Parliamentary Group of Co-operative MPs. Co-operation gives people control over the entities that run their lives, and ownership of assets in their communities. That's what our MPs are in Parliament to deliver.

99 years ago, the Cheltenham Agreement created the Labour and Co-operative electoral pact, and together we've fought for an society where wealth and power are shared ever since. Every Labour and Co-operative representative and campaigner today is part of that story.

Sadly this is the experience of many in public life. Extremes are thriving with the help of social media algorithms, fake accounts and misinformation. Hate & division has been normalised (and monetised). This is materially different than anything I’ve experienced in two decades of elected office.

Local public services should work for people, not private companies. The government's new Neighbourhood Guarantee will crack down on profiteering and put residents in the driving seat. This is economic democracy in practice.

This is chilling, and the response from the police shocking. The indifference shown by the officers while this innocent young man was dying, repeatedly asking for help as his killer watched on, needs accountability.
