A great couple of days in Makerfield last week for the Labour & Co-operative by-election candidate Andy Burnham. And the weather mostly held up too!🌹🐝 💪

It's reassuring to see that the Milburn Review initial findings have been published this week. I spoke in Parliament and have made representations to the government over many months about issues with the current disjointed system of supporting school leavers into apprenticeships. (1/2)

The bee has been a symbol of co-operation in Britain since 1844, when the Rochdale Pioneers featured a beehive in the stonework of the world’s first co-operative store. It’s been the emblem of our movement ever since, and it’s the symbol of our party today. 🐝

Local public services should work for people, not private companies. The government's new Neighbourhood Guarantee will crack down on profiteering and put residents in the driving seat. This is economic democracy in practice.

This is chilling, and the response from the police shocking. The indifference shown by the officers while this innocent young man was dying, repeatedly asking for help as his killer watched on, needs accountability.

For too long, too many people have tried to divide communities. When politics becomes a competition of grievance, communities lose. When misinformation and division take hold, extremists of all stripes benefit. (1/2)

The numbers are in from last week's elections: there are now over 1,250 Co-operative councillors serving communities across Britain 🎉 Every one of them will work to deliver on new powers to boost community and co-operative ownership up and down the country. 🐝

It’s been a long campaign across many governments, but now all councillors will get the protection they deserve. A step in the right direction.
