Artemis II’s astronauts got the opportunity to recreate the iconic 1968 photograph on either side of their journey around the moon, showing Earth as beautiful—and precious—as ever

When the astronauts were describing this, they kept saying things like "surreal," and "amazing," and "our brains are not processing this image in front of us," and "humans probably have not evolved to see what we're seeing." Now I understand why.

Roughly, left of the dark area is part of the far side of the Moon, not seen from Earth. The big round feature is the Orientale impact basin, the Moons youngest. That area was in darkness for all the Apollo flights so the Integrity crew are the first humans to see it with their own eyes

NASA isn't why the US doesn't have universal healthcare, or a social safety net. The US doesn't have those things because politicians with the power to provide them choose specifically not to (with varying levels of support from voters). Enthusiasm for human spaceflight doesn't drive that choice.

Let’s talk about how this works and why we have older devices. When I started doing cabin integration back in 2017, we actually had a 2020 launch date. We bought the tablets the crew used for Artemis II back then. To not spend as much, we limited our choice to devices that were in the ISS catalog.
