The triple lock is almost as insane as the UK's housing policy. Benchmarking welfare benefits to economic stats is fine. Benchmarking them so that they strictly grow faster than the economy is a recipe for eventual bankruptcy and the sudden loss of welfare benefits.

The UK is a formerly rich country rapidly circling the economic drain but its voters are deeply opposed to any of the major reforms (housing, energy, triple lock) you’d need to turn things around and its politicians too chickenshit to do a thing about it

If we somehow end up with a Republican Governor, they get impeached like Day One, right? Both of them aren’t even Schwarzenegger style moderate Republicans, they’re straight MAGA

the correct way to understand the protest opsec stuff is that its a shibboleth for guys who attend left wing protests regularly that lets them exert status over recruits. i would regard it as pretty benign if these people werent actively discouraging people from getting involved.

In a supply-constrained market, 50-year mortgages won't solve the issue. In fact, they might make things worse. For an average of $100 in savings, assuming you have the same interest rate (and you very well might not!), you lose out on building equity. Michael Negron's verdict: gimmick.

Remember when NIMBYs on Seattle’s Eastside sued multiple times to try to stop an innocuous transmission improvement that would have upgraded 1950s-era equipment to modern standards because they thought they knew better than the local utility what electricity demand looked like?

people always think of media as this top down thing imposed on people, but in practice it’s always a dynamic between what media producers supply and what media consumers demand. a lot of RW anti-woke media surged precisely because people reacted against the era of woke overreach

Let's get rid of red tape around affordable housing, starting with the requirement for a steel chassis at the bottom of a manufactured home. This outdated HUD rule allows a home to be moved, but most homes are not moved these days. Michael Negron discusses this and more on our new episode, out now!
