If you want an example of what dictators and their minions do to satirists, look to the great Syrian cartoonist Ali Ferzat. As the Bashar Assad regime started to crumble in 2011, Ferzat produced a series of a scathing cartoons. He was severely beaten by secret police thugs. They broke both hands.

This is devastating. I went to art college with Dave Taylor in 1989-90. Even then, he was leagues ahead of the rest of the class. He was a regular at Forbidden Planet, my old workplace, for years. One of the loveliest, coolest people ever, and a ridiculously talented artist. RIP, mate.

Very sad to hear that we’ve lost Dave Taylor, a pretty extraordinary artist. Didn’t know Dave well but he always struck me as a good one on the odd occasion we’d chat. Thoughts with his family and friends.
