The Angels of Peace Descend on Belgium, by David Low, June 10th 1940. The most utterly chilling political cartoon I’ve ever seen. It’s haunted me ever since I saw it in an O-Level book. It did its job. I wasn’t the brightest kid, but it taught me, this is where Fascism always leads. Always.

If I were in New York this weekend, I’d be trying to get to the Brooklyn Library’s “Tove Jansson & The Moomins” exhibition. It looks like a considerable degree of fun.

Everyone’s gone to bed and I’m reading Paul Cornell & Rachael Smith’s “Who Killed Nessie? The Mystery of the Loch Ness Monster”. It’s absolutely & utterly charming, and, if you haven’t already done so, I’d heartily recommend that you read it too.

Seymour Chwast’s poster for PBS’s Masterpiece Theatre showing of the BBC’s 1976 production of “I, Claudius”. Which, appropriately enough, really was a masterpiece. The greatest ever TV drama? For my money, and I’ll admit there’s very little of that, it really is.

Russ Heath & Stan Goldberg’s fine cover for 1954’s Battle-Front #26. Like many, although hardly all, war covers of the period,it avoids the gung-ho excesses of fighting-men comics. With the freezing cold, the threat of mines & the pending fighting, it’s really not an undiluted recruiting poster.

My first Batman? The first issue I can recall holding in my hands was 1966’s Batman #181. Although I suspect I acquired it a year or two later. I was barely a primary school pupil, but I do recall the tale of Poison Ivy’s powers of seduction producing some very new & rather confusing feelings.
