Washington Post is shuttering its book section, part of the ongoing war against literacy & knowledge. We at Current Affairs want to pick up the slack by expanding book reviews. Writers: pitch us anytime! And if you subscribe/donate we'll use the funding to commission book coverage.

I would like to make a little thread/sloppy directory, here: If you write about books for any outlet (by which I mean not a newsletter, somewhere that you have an editor), please reply and tell me what you cover and where?

At the end of the day, the Black Lives Matter era was about whether people should be killed in the street, and lots of people decided yeah and put those little blue flags on their cars. It spread to everyone because it stopped for no one.

My take on the Jan 23 action in Minneapolis is that I don’t really care whether it’s a “true” general strike (we could argue about that all day). What DOES matter is that it’s a bold and necessary escalation, and local labor leaders are publicly encouraging workers to join in anti-ICE resistance

I remain quite angry at the people, many of them fellow Jews, who spent so much energy worrying about leftwing campus antisemitism when it was so clearly used as a distraction from the growing acceptance of mask-off Nazism within the Republican party. So many people allowed themselves to get played.

It needs to be treated as importantly as "no animals were harmed during the making of this film" Because yeah, for a time? Animals got harmed and people accepted it as a part of the process. And it was wrong. So is this, and it needs to stop.
