One of the things you guys need to be realllly careful about is not reinventing housing segregation in order to satisfy the demands of anti-gentrification activists. “Keeping affluent people separate from poor people” has not historically been a policy proposed by or benefiting the poor people.

What makes me furious is how people love to go hog-wild about how gentrification ruins lives, but you have large swathes of urban America festering in miserable poverty for decades, segregated, with no jobs, predatory businesses, appalling schools, and that’s, like, just local color or something?

Stranger Things really did serious damage to the way modern young people think about the relatively recent past. A teenage boy didn't just come out as gay in 1987 to a room full of people, some of whom were friends/family but some of whom he barely knew, and receive unanimous praise and support.
