Painted Bunting (Passerina ciris): This is a species in the Cardinal family. The bright coloured plumage of the male of this 14cm (5.5in) bird only develops in its second year. These North American birds feed on seed. Gorgeous photo taken by Stacey Rich Bergman in the United States.

On this day in 1929, Raymond Moriyama was born in Vancouver. One of Canada's most acclaimed architects, his buildings include the Canadian Embassy in Tokyo, the Ontario Science Centre, the Bata Shoe Museum, and the Canadian War Museum. He died in 2023.

On this day in 1929, Graeme Ferguson was born in Toronto. An experimental filmmaker, he was a co-founder of IMAX. He served as president of IMAX from 1970 to 1990. He was awarded a Special Achievement Genie in 1983 and the Order of Canada in 1992. He died in 2021.

On this day in 1992, The Tragically Hip released their third studio album Fully Completely. One of the greatest Canadian albums ever made, it sold 200,000 copies within three months. It reached #1 in Canada, eventually selling over one million copies for Diamond Status.
