Lower Water Street: a contract to upgrade the street (including the bikeway) was awarded in July 2025 and construction was supposed to begin last month. Nothing has started as far as I can tell.

from yesterday, video of a pedestrian running out the way to avoid being struck on a marked crosswalk, in broad daylight (Victoria Road, Dartmouth) No amount of high vis and pedestrian care can prevent this.

The City of Ottawa posted the raw speed data from before and after Doug Ford banned speed cameras and the effect is so obvious it's not even necessary put a line marking when that happened. This chart shows the percentage of drivers going 15km/h or more over the posted limit.

Heads up,
#BikeHfx
! Starting May 18, a ton of buses are going to be using Almon St between Windsor & Connaught, instead of Bayers Rd, for the next 2 years. There are already temporary bus stops in place. I think we’ll likely lose the WB bike lane divider west of Windsor but that’s a guess.

you have almost nothing to gain from spending money on self-help or body optimization books and courses. most supplements and health topics are bogus. but universal healthcare would meaningfully extend your probable lifespan.

In response to NIMBY sentiment, Halifax planners are proposing to frustrate the development of missing-middle housing. If you care about making Halifax more inclusive, please write your councillor. We don't need more arbitrary setback and design requirements. We need more housing.

this is a terrible survey (a hint: do not say "improve" in a question where you are asking if people like and idea or not) but it is also really important to fill out and you have my permission to use a lot of upper case and exclamation marks

8/10 A suspected grocery theft became a damaged police vehicle, a damaged bicycle, a damaged public street, at least one person hospitalized, and a neighbourhood put at risk. That is not efficient. That is not proportionate. That is not public safety.

ride of the season is on Sunday! The forecast is currently calling for showers, so, as a reminder: we don’t do rain dates. That means that we’re pretty likely to take on risk of showers, rather than cancel. We’ll update by 7:30am if the ride is cancelled.

what made Halifax less safe for the average person today? (maybe) someone stealing food? the police driving an SUV the wrong way down a one way street and crashing it into a telephone pole?

Eyewitness accounts in the immediate wake of disaster and violence are often TERRIBLY inaccurate. And within hours, people will have talked and spread enough conflicting narratives that everybody's "memories" are at least like 30% cobbled together after-the-fact.
