Can we take a moment to appreciate the rendering of transposable elements as mischievous little scamps in this Medeiros et al paper?

Two people riding one lime scooter inside the skinny buffer lines on Lyndale Ave because there's no bike lane. My reaction: Good. It builds character. In my day we rode in traffic, we got run over on the way there and on the way back, and we appreciated what we had.

would this save on infrastructure? no, existing roads can't handle this. well the technology is easier, right? nope, would need far better automation than exists. surely, it's safer though? guess again.

Joe: I am a 73 year-old retired mechanic in Forsberg, Nebraska. My 3 biggest problems are Iran's uranium enrichment capability, the casting of Helen in Christopher Nolan's "Odyssey," and the ability of Tennesseeans to check out "Roots" from a library 1000 media outlets: can we please talk at length

I am so confused by this article. Who are these people who are so embarrassed to be caught shopping at Aldi that they felt they needed to make excuses? Is this a regional thing? My image of the Typical NPR Listener includes "feels mildly smug about all the money they save shopping at Aldi."

If I had replaced my CPU cooler a couple of days earlier I wouldn't have had a problem, and if I'd waited another day to take it in for repair the problem would have been obvious.

A lesson some folks never got as children: You can't have a friendly debate with people who aren't your friends. That's just called a debate. Also, it's a great way to annoy the shit out of strangers who didn't volunteer for it.

Plenty of academics have already commented on this with the most obvious flaw - grad students aren’t “merely” employees to whom professors outsource running experiments. But even in industry, thinking of junior employees as drones who can be replaced by AI is a problematic fallacy we should avoid.

Let me tell you something. Y’all are asking too many damn questions at every point of sale. I have to leave a comment, make a suggestion, donate to a charity, choose a method of payment three times and then multiple choice of ways to get a receipt. Take the damn money and leave me alone.
