People see huge backlists and assume that means people are raking in cash but I am telling you, esp writers who have been at it for twenty years: the book you buy might be the only sale for that title all month long. I've got old stuff that only sells one or two copies a year.

Doing a bunch of my Christmas shopping, and doing my very best to use it to support small businesses. (Tea! Weird jam! Books from local indie bookstores! It's yucky out, but a lot of the folks on my list want cozy things, and it feels cozy to procure them and help out small businesses, too.)

I bruise ludicrously easily, so my post-op foot is currently a dazzling array of colors. I'm struggling very much with the "you just returned from an international business trip and rolled straight into foot surgery, you don't have to be productive today" thing. Looking at the colors helps.

A friend points out that research has shown that general anesthesia gives you jetlag. I can't decide whether surgery after returning to the East Coast from the UK two days after US daylight savings (but UK's is earlier so I came back to a different time zone than I left) was brilliant or stupid.

Fun game, is the room spinning cause I still haven't finished recovering from anesthesia, or because I haven't eaten enough while still recovering from anesthesia? (Yes, I have eaten, yes I'll eat more, no I am not home by myself. I am safe, you don't have to worry about me.)

I had minor foot surgery thid morning, and I'm currently trapped on the couch eith my foot elevated. I am allowed to neither operate machinery, nor sign legal contracts. (This was explicitly pointed out.) I'm binging Taskmaster which seems like the right amount of brain.

Things I'm enjoying about Heathrow - the play area is top notch, the United boarding area offers free magazines and newspapers, and my scone came with both clotted cream and jam.
