Looks to me like it was IPSO who cited the privacy and harassment clauses when passing on a request for no contact from the media, not Mandelson's lawyers. The problem for Mandelson is that it is impossible for him to claim his situation doesn't meet the "justified in the public interest" exception.

Bravo to the National Scot for not being cowed by Mandelson, by publishing his absurd request. Clearly personal and public inquiries continue to be in the national interest, so this sick assertion of protection should have no effect beyond bringing more scrutiny and disrepute.

Mandelson has very serious questions to answer, and it's very much in the public interest for journalists to keep asking them. IPSO should never have circulated this notice, which is clearly invalid.
