If you want to draw from life, you will learn more from observation than from anatomy books. Look. See how body parts attach to each other. Measure the body against itself (ie that knee is as high as that shoulder, etc). LOOK at your subject.

DO ask artists what tools they use. But first check their highlights/pinned posts to see if they have a FAQ on their tools posted somewhere.
