it is really important to emphasize, once again, that republicans are betting the house on us being afraid of them--so afraid of them we fold without a fight. but actually if we fight we can win. don't surrender preemptively.

The board consists of three semi-literate car dealers who were the state’s top GOP donors. Their top priority is fighting wokeness in the Potato School by putting up a statue of the confederate general who owned the largest potato farm in the state in 1859.

US universities genuinely are like “welcome to Tennessee Agricultural College in Bumfuck Nowheresville. We invented the modern potato and our facilities include a particle accelerator, nuclear reactor, and TOP500 supercomputer. Tuition is $12,000 for instate students and we have 40,000 of them”

Many people have a vested interest in pretending otherwise, but the US research university is globally dominant to an almost unbelievable degree. The typical state university is a football team stapled to a R&D lab with a budget bigger than the entire nation of Belgium.

I’m a broken record, but it’s facially insane that the SCOTUS’s position is that the interest of a political party—an entity with no special constitutional protection—in gerrymandering is more important than black people’s right to vote, which we have several constitutional amendments addressing

Yeah, and the unfortunate thing is, this is a genuinely tough nut to crack without having a mountain of money to burn in the process: the increasing resolution of phone cameras turned into a moat for the major operators! 30s of video on an iPhone 16 is ~60MB. That turns into a real bandwidth bill.

I do actually think a thing Dems should do in 2029 if they manage to win Congress is to bring in the editors and owners of the NYT and grill them under oath about (a) their connections to the child sex slave ring (b) why they did not report on the ring and Donald Trump’s involvement in it.

They also spent decades working to overturn Roe v Wade. Fake progressives always whine about incrementalism, but incrementalism is exactly how the GOP managed to achieve those two major goals of theirs. The key is you need to just RELENTLESSLY KEEP AT IT. For YEARS and YEAR.
