Yeah, that reputation worked on me and kept me away from even considering playing Dark Souls for years and years. Cut to when I played through it just this year after getting really deep into Souls lore and the vibes through my partner's love for the series, discovering it's not that difficult.

Done with vanilla Dark Souls II. Giant memories and DLCs are identical with Scholar so there wasn't much to compare in the back end of it. Overall the most radical difference for me was that you get the Dull Ember super super late in vanilla
