The attention to detail in Sky 1st Chapter is really something else. Even the silent NPCs have their own little narratives. Here's an example. In Rolent there are two NPCs that you can't talk to: an old woman that is always reading by herself and a boy that you first see waving at some birds. 🧵

Folks know Dark Auction, an upcoming PC/PS5/Switch game written by Rika Suzuki (Another Code, Hotel Dusk), is releasing in Japan on Jan. 29 and will include English, right??

Excited for people to play the Trails in the Sky the 1st remake when it releases tomorrow. I'm ~20 hours into the full release & very impressed with how well it captures the charm and spirit of the original. Wow! This issue of gM contains interviews with some of Leaf's key staff in the late 90s, including Tatsuya Takahashi/Toru Minazuki (the writer and artist behind the company's Visual Novel Series) and Naoya Shimokawa (one of Leaf's founders and composers). Careful though, the magazine is NSFW.

My impressions on the Switch 2 Edition of Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter. It's a good but not substantial improvement over playing the game on back-compat. Resolution is better, but performance is a bit worse? Really weird.

This video was really cool! Sometimes when you look at games development in its early era it can feel like this to me.

This is easily one of the most interesting and well-researched game essay videos on the entire internet. The impact of Chunsoft's sound novels (even on devs outside of the novel genre) is ginormous, and it's time we start paying them the proper respect. Please watch this.

According to some footage I've seen of the credits, the English localization for Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter was handled by a company called Acttil. They've previously worked on a number of the games in the Atelier series, such as Ryza 1, as well as Ar Nosurge and Blue Reflection.

Finishing up watching this video and man Every name that's come up as someone inspired by Chunsoft's works has hit me like a ton of bricks, when in retrospect it's super obvious. Please watch this banger if you can!

Very exciting to see that Detective Instinct now has a release date! I did some volunteer testing on this game a year or two ago and it is really cool. Definitely add it to your wishlist if you are a fan of Japanese adventure games like Famicom Detective Club.
