I'm seeing a few people rise against the passive and stale idea that drawing pretty pics and catering to mental health is a kind of praxis. BUT "joy as resistance" ISN'T that. It was forged by Black women in the US since the 19th century and that quote opens a Black feminist poem by Toi Dericotte.

Joy as a way to outsmart, defy and heal from oppression is a Black forced diaspora praxis of resistance. Towns (2016) argues that playful things like singing, whistling, and dressing up were intentional means to construct an invisible web for escaping abuse, especially in the Underground Railroad.

Fundamentally, joy as praxis is something Black people, especially women(and in particular Black queer women) have been doing in having acts and emotions of joy as pathways to construct survival and strategies *materially*, *in real life* (see Angela Davis and bell hooks for more)

The amalgams (Puar, 2004) in Black and Queer fights made it a touchstone in LGBTQ+ struggles. Let's not forget that Stonewall was a gay bar, a place for the joy of being oneself, it was the heart of a riot. Unfortunately, the key role of Black women in all that was erased, as usual.

The mainstreaming of antiracism and "gay is ok" also brought its whitewashing. It's OUR antiracist, feminist, decolonial and queer-positive duty to *never erase* the Black, female, and queer PRAXIS of "joy as resistance" and denounce anemic escapism as the *antithesis* of that. Stay hydrated 💕
