Just learned that chemo drug production in India has been severely disrupted due to the cost of raw platinum shooting up thanks to demand from the AI tech industry. Gen AI is pretty much a death cult at this point- from environmental destruction to art theft to displacement, and now this. Wtf man.

It's over all a report about how reliance on digital tech fails to actually support people who need assistance the most, which we see again and again. The facial recognition is just one part. And as always, additional hurdles to "remove corruption" or prevent fraud exclude those in need.

You can read the report here. There is a reliance on smartphones, which these women might not have access to, as well as old photos for matching, using the tech like face id for phone unlocking. Little kids 3-6yo, are now required to participate in the biometrics, too. That's just the start!

Would I be an asshole if I point out that a Pulitzer Centre funded report on Google AI causing many poor Indian citizens to be denied food rations, has used AI for its editorial illustration 🥲 the report is ofc valid and very important, but why use AI for your illustration 😭
