what can i say? it happened when i needed it: when i was defeated, had just failed big time, and was close to giving up. i see its beating heart. it inspired me to backtrack and try again. it's okay, veilguard; i'm not perfect either. we're good.

i know i can get cheesy af with all that and social media isn't the place to be that heartfelt, so let's leave it at I did not save for months and tattooed this game on my skin forever because I thought it was going to look cool.

Plus, I find that it crowns the series' throughline. DAO is hope as the determination that can turn odds. DA2 is hope as survival that rises the tides of your community. DAI is hope as the blueprint of an institutional machinary that can smite unwinnable foes. DAV is... all of that.

From how I see it beng hopeful, according to DA, means being stubborn but smart against all odds, building and trusting strong allyships to rely on through thick and thin, and deal with the grind of making that wheel turn in many levels. All while everything seems to rip and rot around you.

Still you're asked to move forward, make difficult decisions with no good solution, and care about those around you. You're asked to befriend, fall in love, and find moments of respite. You're asked to do very boring shit. Often, you're asked to make sacrifices. Tbh DA can be summarized in this:

Tbf one of my favorite things about dav is how every companion journey is a story of hope and its growing pains, ehich rhymes with the overarching mission.

Hope is the struggle to be who you are, hope is toling today to bring a tomorrow, hope is to bury hatchets to forge better tools, hope is grieving insurmountable losses but celebrating every little victory, hope is choosing what the future means, hope is what role you hold and what legacy you leave.

Hope is facing gods being made of petty flesh, because no one can become a god but every god is actually made of petty flesh, too. Hope is a lot of work, and terrifying change. I think it's really beautiful.
