One of these days I’ll write a rule book that has gotten me through nursing. Rule #1 would be to pay attention to your mental health. Rule #2: when a patient dies and you talk to loved ones about it, always use the word dead. Not passed away, not deceased, dead. It brings finality, closure.

Informed my staff that I would be leaving my position over the weekend. The amount of times I heard “great things are going to go to shit again” makes me happy and sad at the same time.
