There are a ton of great movies and TV shows out right now, many of them super relevant to the, uh… *unique* US political climate. Like Andor, which is showing some teeth in a second season that’s a vivid metaphor for America’s descent into authoritarianism.

Due process is firmly enshrined in the constitution. It means the government must give you notice & an opportunity to be heard BEFORE divesting you of your liberty or property—every time. There are no qualifiers. There are no terms & conditions. There are no exceptions for “illegals” or “bad guys.”

Protests aren’t the only tool in the anti-authoritarian toolkit, but they’re incredibly important. Protests help us see each other; they make it feel safer to refuse to obey the dictator, and make it more possible for us to organize mass non-cooperation. It’s an essential step in the process.

It’s hard to overstate the rank greed at play here. What we’re witnessing is sociopathic indifference & disregard for humanity & social norms. All they care about is dismantling the regulatory state so they can self-deal with impunity. Anything else that happens (good or bad) is random & collateral.

The thing about Alaska is that (most) people look out for each other. If our neighbor is hurting, we help, no matter what. We need one another to survive and our state legislators know this. It might be the only thing that keeps me hopeful in this red state.

Trump and Vance act as if the problem is that Ukraine is resisting an ongoing Russian invasion. The problem is the ongoing Russian invasion. If they want to use American power to stop the war, apply it to the aggressor. Abusing the victim is not going to end a war of aggression.
