I am glad this is all helping make this more credulous for folks, but we as a society need to get past evaluating every situation like this minutely and agree that ICE as a system is killing, beating, and torturing people as its operating norms. The focus should be on resistance and dismantlement.

If you see one, the most important thing to say is “WHAT’S YOUR NAME” because otherwise the person is gone for good, maybe. I witnessed one in an alley as the sole pursuit car, I was the only witness, I froze for a second and didn’t shout it in time, and the guy is just… gone now. I’ll never know.

I know we aren’t all fans of the police here but the difference between this and an ordinary police arrest or detainment is night and day. There’s no “You’re under arrest” and then sitting in the car while they ask questions. You are simply disappeared in seconds. No record of what happened.

They don’t know who they’re taking because: -they don’t talk to them -they’re random pedestrians It is literally indistinguishable from a kidnapping when you see it, except there are so many of them, and they are more heavily armed and armored than any kidnapper would ever be.

Having seen several abductions up close, it is really hard to convey how much the thing they’re doing is roaming in military convoys until they see someone who is alone and isn’t white, and then jumping out in large numbers, pulling them into a van, and screeching off, all in 90 seconds or so.

Ironically if they’d commit themselves to behaving like ordinary law enforcement and not paramilitaries, they’d both be able to pick up more people and the community would have fewer tools to resist them. I would still despise their mission but it wouldn’t be creating a war zone in my neighborhood.

As long as they’re committed to sweeping up random pedestrians, the role of the observers, commuters, and rapid responders is to ensure that it takes as many people as possible to do those sweeps. We can’t stop them from taking folks but we can restrain them greatly by taxing resources
