The series is much more likely to show an incident on 27 November when 5 NZ Bde was attacked at Menastir by forces from the Bardia fortress, and in which the Bde notes one enemy I tank was lost to a 2-pdr.

Re-reading this at the moment (French Indochina is my thing). It occurs to me (not for the first time) how, despite his undoubted greatness, FDR was quite naive when it came to both his pronouncements on colonialism with all men being born equal and also in his dealings with Stalin.

My read this week, the story of the 2/5th Australian infantry battalion as told by an officer who served throughout the war with them. One of the few battalions to fight all the kings enemies Italians, Germans, vichy French and Japanese.

Matilda II tank in Australian service being pulled across a river on Bougainville, February 1945(!). The Japanese captured Bougainville in 1942. In Nov '43, the Americans landed and secured a perimeter. From Nov '44-Aug '45 Australian forces conducted mopping-up operations. AWF 018380
