Having always been quite reluctant, I do now often use an eBook reader. Whilst I still prefer the real thing 📖, I have found 2 positives. 1)Awareness of & easier access to unknown titles. 2) It has quickly paid for itself by reducing my spending on those 📚 that sadly disappoint. #histbookchat

Nice surprise to read an account from a pilot who is very familiar to me. Just a few months after Dunkirk, Sqn Ldr McComb of 611 Sqn would be involved in the shooting down of 2 Dorniers over Lincolnshire. Watching from a field below, with hot bullet casings landing around them was my dad & grandad.

Rarely mentioned nowadays, but the books by the late author & WWII veteran, Patrick Delaforce, deserve to still be highlighted. Today's arrival will focus on Arnhem, but I'm particularly interested in his chapters on the battles for Antwerp, the Scheldt and the French ports. #histbookchat

When this film came out all the 'experts' immediately jumped on the inaccuracies and the fictional romantic storyline. On TV recently, we watched it last night with no prejudgements. It is a good film with an excellent cast. I also recommend the book from which the film was based. #histbookchat
