I predict this will be one of the biggest issues of the decade. Insurers prevailing against fossil fuel and utility corporations will mean more and more bankruptcies for them, and there must be a plan for state receivership of their assets and public management going forward. We don't have one yet.

I don't think it's really all that coincidental either that this was done by a Black man, and that the analogies being put forth relate specifically to the systems of racial hierarchy that existed in the US and South Africa.

I am so glad to see @evanurquhart.bsky.social write about this. It's trans and abolitionist organizers in Maine moving their communities to act, and learning that fact in 2023 firsthand on the public power campaign I went to support was inspiring and deepened my commitments.

Opportunities every day now to create more solidarity with one another not less. I'm thinking in particular about parents of children who have come out to them as trans very young, who are trying to figure out how to be good parents in light of rulings like Chiles, when all of this is new to them.

It's very interesting how fast public power is breaking into this kind of elite policy sphere. I wouldn't say for certain yet but we might be at a legitimate turning point and it will be notable who leads and who lags.
