Dungeon Meshi really is my gold standard for pacing, the way to unfold a central mystery, balancing a cast and their individual arcs and tying it all together as a reflection of the overarching narrative. More or less perfect in every regard.

The de Young museum in SF has an art of manga exhibition that is absolutely fantastic!! It was /magical/ being near the original inked pages of iconic stories and authors, seeing the individual pen strokes, ink brushes, pencil marks… a truly wonderful experience.

I've been watching what's happening in Minneapolis and I don't know what to say. Two American citizens killed by ICE in three weeks. Countless more who are not citizens. People afraid to leave their homes. For those of us not living in Minnesota, are some things we can actually do:

You have to read this. Firsthand affidavit from one of the women who was there and recording the video. She talks about how Alex Pretti was directing traffic when she arrived. She watched him be killed in front of her. She's afraid to go home, worried she'll be arrested.

we need to abolish ICE right fucking now these are violent thugs who want to kill everyone. this is the gestapo. this is nazi germany. this is state execution that will be approved of by those on top

As these executions occur, please don't be desensitized. Please don't believe this must be acceptable as a new normal, because while state-sanctioned escalations of authoritarian evil are familiar tenets of the fascist regime, you must never slot them as part of your status-quo in any sense.

I'm not one for false optimism. But what I witnessed today in Minneapolis was tremendous, both in scale and exuberance. It was a stunning answer to the federal assault on Minnesota, a show of solidarity that gives us something to hold on to during times that are unforgiving.

I met so many heroic observers on the ground today, folks I’m starting to see every day. I still don’t know real names, but there are certain pseudonyms who are always out there and that make me feel safe. I’m meeting neighbors when we discover we’re rapid response together. Community is how we win.
