I've received some many angry messages since my Junos column, filled with hate and contempt toward Quebec and its culture. Sad. I said the Junos, "Canada's Music Awards", completely ignored Quebec and they did. And Quebec is part of Canada, for the moment.

When English Canada does something, they call it Canadian, not English Canadian, cause they own Canada. They make lists of best Canadian songs/ events/historical moment, etc, they don't say best anglophone... but that's what they mean. Francophones don't think that saying francophone is demeaning.

I will admit that one reason this always frosts me is that as a person with no kids, I heavily subsidize people’s kids, *and it’s completely correct*. But stories about society giving out free stuff often ignore that public school, including for rich people, is already a thing!

I cannot escape the sense that the reason people get more “well, hmm” about this is that deep down, they’re not sure child care should be encouraged, which really comes down to a sense that a parent should stay home, by which they mean a mother, and I’m not walking that road.

We already subsidize like 15 years of free public school for the kids of many, many people who have plenty of money. Why would anybody suddenly freak out about a couple of years of preschool?
